Meet Jess — a mould inspector who's been through it herself

Hi, I'm Jess.

My way into this work wasn't planned — it started with my own home. In 2022, a hidden bathroom leak was quietly fuelling mould in the ceiling below. Nothing visible, no smell. My husband was fine, but my son and I — who share the genetic susceptibility that affects about 1 in 4 people — got really unwell with CIRS.

Finding a good, independent inspector was its own ordeal, and the lack of real support for mould illness floored me. So I left my career in government investigations, got certified, and built MouldWise to be the calm, honest guide I wish I'd had.

Today I'm an ACES Advanced Mould Testing Technician, InterNACHI-certified, an IICRC Water Restoration Technician and a committee member of the Australasian Society of Building Biologists — with a science degree behind me and, just as importantly, lived experience of exactly what you might be going through.

We can talk through your home, your symptoms, testing and remediation strategy, or I can review your inspection report before you spend a cent on remediation. WHY MOULD WISE

Dampness and moisture in the indoor environment can significantly affect air quality, lead to contents and structural damage and adversely affect health - and most of the time it’s hidden.

Our specialised service excels in identifying concealed mould and moisture issues - safeguarding your time, finances, and health. This is essential in an industry where regulations are deficient and the harmful consequences of mould are often downplayed.

What will an inspection involve?

A comprehensive mould and moisture assessment involves a detailed examination of both the interior and exterior areas of a property. This evaluation involves using specialised tools such as thermal imaging devices, digital moisture mapping equipment, and techniques for water vapour assessment.

To accurately determine the property's condition and the extent of any contamination, various environmental sampling methods are employed. The outcome of this assessment is a thorough report and remediation work plan, which will enable a well-rounded remediation strategy. It is crucial that the inspection is conducted on-site and independently, separate from any remediation company. A proper assessment typically lasts around 5 hours and emphasises the importance of not relying on air sampling as the sole evaluation method.
